How to Get to Know a Neighbourhood Before Purchasing a Home

The location of a home is one thing you can’t change about it. Before buying it’s crucial that you take the time to get to know your potential new neighbourhood.⁣

You can quickly and easily get a feel for what the area surrounding a home is like and whether it’s right for you by:

1. Doing a few drive-bys. Driving around at different times to experience the community and what it’s like to live there day-to-day. Visit in the morning, mid-day, and at night and make note of things like the traffic, noise level, and ongoing activity in the area.

2. Recreating your commute. If you commute to work, do your regular drive to and from the office and make sure you’re comfortable with it. Using apps like Google Maps and Waze can also help you understand what impact traffic may have on your commute at different times.

3. Mapping out key amenities. Make note of the distance to amenities such as the nearest grocery store, pharmacy, dry cleaner, and other services you use regularly.

4. Researching school zones. Even if you don’t have kids, research schools, because living in a favourable school district greatly impacts a home’s value!

From the moment we start working with you, Erin and I will begin the process of extensively researching potential homes and their neighbourhoods for you. We leave no stone unturned, and in many cases, this means getting out and doing the legwork ourselves.

With over 20 years of combined experience, we know exactly what you need to make the best decision, and we’re dedicated to providing you with it!
