If you are moving to Toronto, an area to consider is Lytton Park, a midtown neighbourhood that stretches north from Briar Hill Avenue to Lawrence Avenue and west of Yonge Street to Mona Drive. This upscale neighbourhood in North Toronto is cherished for its wide boulevards and traditionally elegant homes, secluded green spaces and excellent schools. Its hidden parks and nature trails are set close to some of the most vibrant shopping, dining and entertainment areas of Toronto and these attributes have long established Lytton Park as a leading urban hotspot with a healthy appreciation for nature.

The history of Lytton Park’s desirability dates from the late 1890s after a carriage service rail system was established to connect this rural area to the city of Toronto. Developers saw the potential benefits of the land surrounding a commuter station and soon began building homes of character and scope, most of which survive today. The city of Toronto annexed Lytton Park in 1912 and this new Toronto neighbourhood was soon attracting professionals and their families who were drawn to the area due to the building of excellent schools, community churches and its close proximity to the downtown core. Today, the pedestrian-friendly streets lead residents to an abundance of shops and services on Yonge Street and Avenue Road.

Lytton Park real estate is continually in high demand for those looking to find an excellent central Toronto neighbourhood.
Like most of Toronto’s oldest and most established neighbourhoods, Lytton Park was developed in the early 1900s with the majority of homes built between 1900 and 1945. This length of construction time led to a variety of architectural styles with a mix of Georgian, Colonial, Victorian and Tudor styles.

The classically traditional homes in Lytton Park are valued not only for their enduring style and quality craftsmanship but also for their large lots. Many lots are 40–50 feet wide and offer properties with deep front lawns.
Traditional elements such as hardwood floors, leaded glass windows and wood burning fireplaces grace most of these homes. However, many recent renovations have produced stunningly contemporary modern interiors while retaining the classical elegance of the exteriors.

Lytton Park is one of the best neighbourhoods in Toronto for access to all types of recreation. From parks, ravines, and extensive nature trails, to community-based clubs and sports activities, Lytton Park has much to offer its residents.

Lytton Park
The park for which this neighbourhood is named is a hidden gem tucked away in a valley at the south east corners of Yonge St. and Avenue Road. A lush green space with a wonderful children’s playground, Lytton Park is also home to the North Toronto Tennis Club whose members use the 3 well-maintained, night-lit courts for their instructional and house league programs. Additionally, there are two pristine bowling greens in Lytton Park that remain under the care of the North Toronto Lawn Bowling and Croquet Club since it was established here in 1912.

Herbert Begg Memorial Park
Sitting just south, across the road from Lytton Park, is another beautiful park that is actually a sunken garden. This quiet oasis-like parkland is a strolling garden of beauty and many residents enjoy walking their dogs here. It is also a popular spot for wedding photography as the backdrop is gorgeous.

Chatsworth Ravine and Otter Creek Park
The Chatsworth Ravine is part of Toronto’s Discovery Walks Program and offers Lytton Park residents a stream-side nature walk under a canopy of green. Otter Creek Park has a double pad outdoor ice rink that is also a popular spot for skate boarding in the summer. The school yards at Lawrence Park Collegiate and Glenview Senior Public School offer Lytton Park residents access to a running track, baseball diamond, basketball court, and in the winter, terrific tobogganing hills.

John Ross Robertson School
Highly regarded as one of the best elementary schools in the city of Toronto, Lytton Park’s John Ross Robertson School has been a focal point in this community since it was opened in 1921. Even today, Lytton Park residents look forward to enjoying the spring fair and use the grounds of the school for community softball and t-ball leagues.
